A Historical Tidbit:  October 19, 1781 was a historic day for America’s freedom and for George Washington’s troops. On this day General Cornwallis surrendered to General Washington at Yorktown unconditionally. This battle ended the Revolutionary War, a war few thought America could win. Washington acknowledged on many occasions he had received divine help and in 1792 stated “I am sure there never was a people, who had more reason to acknowledge a divine interposition in their affairs, than those of the United States.” America’s French allies played a major role in this victory that began on October 9. The French navy had badly defeated the British navy while strong winds drove Cornwallis’s troops back into Washington’s heavy fire while attempting to escape across the York River. Cornwallis then said: “it even looked like God was on Washington’s side.” The treaty officially ending the war was signed September 3, 1783.

From the Federalist Papers: During the debate over ratification of the Constitution, Alexander Hamilton made the following statement about political parties: "Were there not even these inducements to moderation, nothing could be more ill-judged than that intolerant spirit which has, at all times, characterized political parties. For in politics, as in religion, it is equally absurd to aim at making proselytes by fire and sword. Heresies in either can rarely be cured by persecution."

Question: According to Hamilton, what is a major problem with political parties?
